Alana Ketchel is an experienced health services researcher and policy analyst, ready to help clients establish and implement plans for long-term success in the ever-changing health policy climate.
She has significant experience in the areas of health care cost containment, Medicare payment policy, health insurance exchanges and health information technology.
Prior to joining HMA, Alana was a member of the policy team for a national business coalition on health based in San Francisco. In that role she supported policy work at the federal and state levels to improve health care quality and reduce costs.
Alana led a project to convene large purchasers, identify their perspectives on health care cost containment policy and present those perspectives to policymakers. As part of that work she culled information from multiple sources into clear and concise policy briefs on various topics. She also led the coalition’s insurance exchange task force and served as a member of Covered California’s Plan Management and Delivery System Reform Advisory Group.
Alana previously supported health information exchange policy development for the State of California, contributing to the development of strategic and operational plans that secured nearly $39 million in stimulus funds for the state. Her previous work also includes performing health information technology evaluations for a large health system and research on the impacts of Medicare payment policy changes.
She received her Master of Public Policy/Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley and her bachelor’s degree from Stanford University.
Alana enjoys tackling the hills road biking, curling in the San Francisco Bay Area Curling Club and exploring the various dining and theater options the area has to offer.
