A team player with exceptional organizational skills, Cheryl Zarafonitis brings depth of knowledge and experience in healthcare finance, accounting and office management to HMA.
Cheryl manages payroll for all HMA employees nationwide – a time-sensitive job that demands accuracy and attention to detail. Cheryl does it all. She enters all personnel and salary data into the payroll system. Each pay cycle, she confirms all changes successfully upload, processes the file, completes the corresponding journal entries, and maintains the electronic files, so when there is a question, Cheryl gets the call.
Cheryl balances her payroll responsibilities with other finance functions. Serving as the accounting liaison for four HMA offices, she works with colleagues to prepare client invoices and track account receivables.
Cheryl has specialized in healthcare finance and administration most of her career, gaining much of her experience with Mid-Michigan Physicians, a physician-owned, multi-specialty practice with 400 employees across several locations in the greater Lansing, Michigan, area. As a human resources generalist, she was responsible for coordinating payroll, administering FMLA policies, processing workers compensation claims, and implementing safety and HIPAA procedures.
Cheryl worked nine years as office manager for the Mid-Michigan Regional Dialysis Center, a joint venture between area nephrologists and two major hospitals in Lansing. She processed payroll, compiled monthly financials, coordinated patient billing, and prepared employee-related 401(k) documentation – all while serving as administrative assistant to the program director and medical director. For the 15 years prior, as an office supervisor, Cheryl took on a wide range of administrative responsibilities for the busy Sparrow Hospital dialysis center in Lansing.
