Cieara Simmons is a dedicated research associate with a focus on the public service realm. As an individual with lived experience and an affinity to underrepresented groups, she prides herself on her strong communication skills, knowledge of social justice frameworks and the ability to successfully collaborate with others to support community health focused projects.

As a research associate, Cieara has been involved in numerous projects, including a health equity project. During this project, she interpreted data from a state census, created findings tables, found substantial information regarding issues in Los Angeles County’s service planning areas (SPAs), and created a presentation detailing her findings. Cieara assists with client communications, meeting coordination, stakeholder engagement management, project management and data entry.

Prior to joining HMA as an intern, Cieara served as a representative payee at a housing clinic in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District. She helped low-income and formerly homeless San Francisco residents connect to resources and maintain their state income.

As an undergraduate, Cieara worked at both the student Basic Needs Center (The Hub) and The Women’s Center in community facing roles. In her junior year, she led an essential hygiene program that provided free resources to under-resourced students and served close to 1,000 students during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a skilled organizer and passionate team member, she makes it a point to prioritize and connect with the people she works to support.

Cieara earned her bachelor’s degree in global health from the University of California, San Diego.
