A former Medicaid director for one of the most populous and most diverse states in the nation, Gary Crayton is a nationally recognized expert in Medicaid and other publicly financed health care programs. He has extensive experience with Medicaid budgeting and reimbursement, data analysis, health information technology, and HIPAA administrative simplification, privacy and security policies.
Prior to joining HMA, Gary headed Florida’s Medicaid and CHIP programs. Gary also worked with the Florida Health Care Association, which represents Florida’s long-term care industry.
Gary has more than 25 years of progressive state agency Medicaid experience, ranging from program and budget analyst to bureau chief and eventually director. Early in his career, he worked in the hospital industry, after serving in the U.S. Army immediately after college.
Gary is a certified public accountant. He earned his MBA and bachelor’s degree in accounting from Florida State University.
