Jeff Knott brings a unique blend of clinical, operational and technical expertise to HMA.
Jeff joined HMA most recently from the Massachusetts Health Policy Commission (HPC) where he provided clinical consultation on policy-related initiatives including foundational work for a three-part telemedicine pilot program focusing on telepsychiatry in the school system, older adults aging in place, and telehealth for substance use disorder support. He also participated in the cost trends team analysis on the impact of new care delivery models on total cost of care. Jeff was the primary contact for seven CHART hospitals while overseeing all 24 hospital CHART teams – providing operational and technical insight and coordinating between internal and external stakeholders to assist hospitals in optimizing performance on reducing hospital inpatient and emergency department use.
As a clinical content manager at athenahealth, Jeff developed the provider facing clinical content for the patient record. He served as chair of the orthopedic and ambulatory surgical center councils, lead on the clinical decision support initiative, and a member of the patient safety committee. He also authored clinical scenario templates for EMR implementation and helped develop the Chronic Care Management and Transitional Care Management EHR workflows.
Prior to his work in healthcare policy and operations, Jeff enjoyed a ten-year clinical career as a physician assistant at both community hospitals and academic medical centers in Massachusetts. At Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, he was the physician assistant in a high volume orthopedic spine surgery practice – assisting on cases ranging from complex scoliosis fusion procedures to cervical and lumbar discectomies. He was independently responsible for all interdisciplinary care management, interdepartmental team consultation management, and discharge and care transition management on inpatient and outpatient practice services. His clinical career also included experience in orthopedic trauma and emergency medicine.
Jeff earned an executive master’s degree in healthcare leadership from Brown University. He earned a master’s degree in physician assistant studies and a bachelor’s degree in health sciences from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Additionally, he received a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from University of Colorado, Boulder.
Jeff enjoys fishing, golfing, cooking and spending time with his wife, two young children and their beagle, Otis.
