Lisa N. Higgins is a seasoned and accomplished attorney practicing at the intersection of corporate law and strategy, with extensive experience in risk management, ethics and compliance, and litigation. Her focus is helping people find answers to their problems, and she has concentrated her career as corporate counsel to engage in the strategy and challenges that come with finding ways to improve business processes.
In addition to serving as general counsel for HMA, she serves in a dual role with Leavitt Partners, an HMA Company, where she continues to serve in various legal, strategy, and compliance roles. She is responsible for all corporate legal functions and provides guidance and recommendations to corporate leadership on legal, compliance, business risk, and strategic matters. She has also managed the legal department and provided additional healthcare-specific compliance advice on conflicts, privacy, HIPAA, contracts, and lobbying.
Before joining Leavitt Partners, she held various positions with private law firms in Georgia. She provided legal advice and counseling in a broad array of areas including risk management, general liability, commercial risk, and contractual limitations. In addition, she negotiated commercial agreements for both small and large enterprises and facilitated and managed multiple legal teams consisting of internal and external partners.
During her career, Lisa has also handled the defense of clients in state, federal and class action lawsuits, mergers and acquisitions, governance and other business and healthcare-related functions. She earned a Master of Business Administration from the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah, a Juris Doctorate from the Chicago-Kent College of Law at the Illinois Institute of Technology, and a bachelor’s degree in social science and business from Eureka College.
