Mary Hines is a results-driven business office director with over 14 years of experience in administration, medical billing and coding, accounts receivable, and denial management in the medical and behavioral sectors.

Prior to joining HMA, Mary was the business office director for Suncoast Behavioral Health Center. She performed benefit verification for inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient mental health levels of care and identified and resolved denial trends by payer. She negotiated single case agreements with non-participating payers and communicated effectively with key leaders to decrease authorization and claim denial issues. She also posted all insurance and patient payments and is familiar with Florida’s Medicaid enrollment and Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) complaint processes.

As an accounts receivable specialist with PHC of Pinellas, Mary reviewed all denied accounts daily to identify trends and resolve issues. She reduced Medicare denials by 25%, filed clinical and billing appeals to all insurances, and resubmitted claims as necessary. She keyed Florida Medicaid primary and secondary claims into the Florida Medicaid portal, added appropriate modifiers and resubmitted claims. She is also skilled at identifying coding errors and taught three coders how to increase their clean claim volume.

Mary has previously held business office director roles at North Tampa Behavioral Health and Stonecrest Center in Detroit. She was also an assistant business office director at North Tampa Behavioral Health; a senior biller/collector at Harbor Oaks Hospital in New Baltimore, MI; and a Medicare biller at Accretive Health in Warren, MI.

Mary has a Bachelor of Science degree in health services administration and an associate of applied science in the medical insurance specialist field from Baker College.
