Mary Hsieh, PharmD MPH

Mary Hsieh is an accomplished healthcare strategist and general manager with expertise in launching start-up health plans, growing membership and creating new products. She has demonstrated expertise in product development and product management across all government and commercial lines of health insurance including Medicare, Medicaid, public exchanges and commercial plans. She is driven by outcomes, value, quality and results. As a clinical pharmacist with more than 15 years of executive health plan management and integrated delivery systems experience, she is in a unique position to help clients bridge their business and clinical objectives.
At HMA, Mary has spearheaded numerous new business development and feasibility projects. She helps delivery system clients create Medicare-specific growth strategies. She serves in acting executive roles for new health plan start-ups. She guides clients in launching new Medicare Advantage and Special Needs Plans (SNPs) including dual-eligible and institutional SNPs. She advises clients on large-scale procurements and implementation of business process outsourcing (BPO) to ensure the smooth operation of core functions.
Mary generates tangible results. She exceeded growth targets in every business line during her tenure as the market strategy leader for the Kaiser Permanente Georgia Region, and she led the Kaiser Medicare Advantage plans in becoming first in market to earn a CMS five-star rating, the highest overall rating for quality and service. At Kaiser, she developed and launched the first Medicaid business line for its southeast region, resulting in deals with all three Georgia plans and enabling over 20,000 qualified children to access Kaiser’s high-quality clinicians. Under her leadership, Kaiser also undertook alternative payment models for the Medicaid population, with a focus on achieving both value and quality for its members.
Mary is an entrepreneurial problem-solver, founding QualityTip – a company utilizing market intelligence and psychographics to inform healthcare product development and sales. Over the years, she also served in various strategy and analytic leadership roles at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and Tufts Health Plan, two of the nation’s top health plans.
Mary earned her doctorate in pharmacy from the University of California, San Francisco, master’s degree in public health, with a focus on health policy and management, from the University of California, Berkeley, and her bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from the University of California, Davis.
Mary is always on the go, swimming laps or running the streets of Decatur, Georgia, where she lives with her husband Garrett, son Jay, and Bruce – the family Tibetan Terrier who takes after Bruce Lee, the revered martial artist.
