Roopradha (Roop) Datta brings extensive experience in health promotion and public health to HMA. Roop is a licensed dentist from India, where she practiced preventive and clinical oral health services over a four-year period. Her direct clinical experience has driven her passion for developing and implementing public health solutions to enhance population health – especially for rural and tribal populations.
Roop provides administrative and project support to HMA’s Portland office. She is highly skilled in generating, editing and formatting client deliverables. She is adept in conducting literature reviews on a plethora of topics ranging from global health policies to clinical medicine. Roop plays an integral role in collecting and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data using statistical software including ATLAS.ti and STATA.
Since joining HMA, Roop has worked on a variety of oral health projects, including developing RFPs, conducting literature reviews and analyses, and participating in stakeholder engagement activities. Roop has engaged in several oral health related projects, including a project where she performed an analysis of Oregon’s efforts internally and with external partners on oral health initiatives. The work included an environmental scan of local, national and international best practices on oral health and the integration of oral health into medical and behavioral healthcare. Roop has also worked with a health plan to review their Medicaid and CHIP dental carve-out approach and conduct a comparative analysis of programmatic responses of unsuccessful RFPs to clearly identify areas for improvement – concurrently creating new content and providing strategic consultation for future dental carve-out RFPs.
During her graduate fieldwork, Roop gained extensive experience through an internship with the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board, where she performed an oral health longitudinal study focused on Native American children. Roop developed, collected and analyzed qualitative and quantitative data with the application of health behavior theories. She presented her findings at the Oregon Public Health Association 2016 Annual Conference and won the award for outstanding poster.
At Portland State University, Roop was an integral part of a team that evaluated OPHI’s Health and Equity Online Toolkit which serves as a resource for Oregon’s community-based organizations, city governments, schools, businesses and other key players who are interested in implementing health positive policies.
Roop received her Master of Public Health from Portland State University. She holds a Certification in Public Health through the National Board of Public Health Examination. Additionally, she received her Bachelor of Dental Surgery (equivalent to a DDS in the US) from M.S. Ramaiah Dental College and Hospital in Bangalore, India.
Born in India, Roop is fluent in four regional languages and loves to travel. In her spare time, she binge-watches documentary films depicting historical events and enjoys reading nonfiction books.
