Isis Montalvo is an outcomes-driven healthcare executive with expertise in nursing quality, workforce recruitment and retention, quality improvement, program development, business management, managed care, healthcare policy, and education. She has been a licensed professional for over 35 years in various clinical settings and organizations.
As a principal at Health Management Associates (HMA), Isis has supported delivery systems, managed care organizations and has improved quality. Her health plan experiences have included serving as an interim vice president or director for health services or quality at different health plans, performing regulatory mock audits, supporting the creation of a Medicaid Model of Care and implementation plan, creating and providing education on Medicaid, and serving as a writer and reviewer in Request For Proposal (RFP) managed care procurements.
She has worked with teams on corrective action plans to address regulatory deficiencies in many areas, in particular utilization management, care management, and grievance and appeals. In one organization Isis served as an instructor with other colleagues to provide post-acute facility wide training for approximately 150 staff. She has also supported these teams in preparation for regulatory audits. In her role at HMA she provides ongoing regulatory support to health plans.
Before joining HMA, Isis served as vice president of medical management for Aetna Better Health® of California where she focused on managed care in Medicaid, overseeing operations in care management and utilization management. With over 35 years of experience as a nurse, as well as executive leadership and consulting experience, she is a well-rounded, passionate, and patient-centered professional.
While serving as director of the National Center for Nursing Quality at the American Nurses Association, Isis was responsible for strategic planning and business development, which included advocacy, education and conference planning, publications, and product growth. She led implementation of business intelligence reporting, a significant and key improvement to the database for end-users. Focused on policy and quality at the forefront of nursing and healthcare, Isis has provided testimony to the Senate Finance Committee on value-based purchasing and has planned for and co-edited four books on nursing quality improvement and outcomes.
Her extensive experience in clinical settings includes serving in various leadership roles, ensuring nursing competencies, creating workforce pipeline solutions for recruitment and retention, advancing strategic agendas, improving quality, clinical services, patient safety and outcomes. Isis is a collaborative leader with a focus on education, clinical and business optimization, and cross-functional teams and projects.
She earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Columbia Union College, a Master of Science in administration of nursing services from the University of Maryland, and a Master of Business Administration in General Business Administration from the University of Baltimore. She is a registered nurse licensed in both California and Maryland and is a certified professional in healthcare quality (CPHQ).
