Gabriel Velazquez is a public health researcher and strategist dedicated to advancing health equity and strengthening community well-being. With experience spanning strategic planning, behavioral health, HIV prevention, Substance Use Disorder (SUD), and community health improvement, Gabriel is an expert in stakeholder engagement, cross-sector collaboration, qualitative research, and program evaluation. He leverages project management, facilitation, survey design, and data translation to develop actionable strategies that inform funding priorities, policies, and community-driven initiatives.

At Health Management Associates, Gabriel has managed large-scale public health initiatives across California, leading qualitative and quantitative research, designing bilingual surveys, and facilitating stakeholder engagement with public health agencies, healthcare systems, and community-based organizations (CBOs). His work includes producing community health needs assessments, strategic plans, and program evaluations, as well as translating complex data into actionable insights through reports and presentations, focus group facilitation, and coordination of countywide collaborations.

Previously, Gabriel coordinated Bienestar Human Services’ Estoy PrEParado/I’m PrEPared project, advancing PrEP education and HIV prevention through outreach, program delivery, and strategic partnerships. He has also contributed to research at California State University, Long Beach’s Center for Health Equity Research and the Center for Latino Community Health, where he supported studies on tobacco exposure and health education initiatives designed to promote nutrition, physical activity, and disease prevention. Gabriel’s early career included roles in clinical and community health settings, connecting individuals to resources and wellness services.

Gabriel has a master’s degree in public health and a bachelor’s degree in community health education from California State University, Long Beach, as well as an associate’s degree from Long Beach City College. He is fluent in English and Spanish.
