An accomplished healthcare executive, Beth De Santis has over 30 years of experience ranging from direct clinical services to state government leadership and nonprofit C-suites. Throughout her career, she has worked to improve healthcare systems and programs in the sexual health and reproductive health arenas. Her expertise includes business planning, revenue development, change management and quality improvement.
Before joining Health Management Associates, Beth was chief executive officer for Fact Forward, a nonprofit nationally recognized as a thought leader and innovator among teen pregnancy prevention organizations. She provided organizational leadership, collaborating with executive partners to establish long-term goals, strategies and policies, while leading the business direction and actualizing operational plans to meet them.
Beth has proven success improving organizations and systems of care from the policy level to the implementation of services. With Fact Forward, she spearheaded the overhaul of underperforming departments to reduce stagnation and increase productivity. She also oversaw financial reporting, ensuring financial soundness, and worked with independent auditors to achieve compliance for federal fiscal funding. Working as a clinical consultant for the Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, Beth managed changes in integrated healthcare delivery systems and technological innovations, while keeping focus on quality of care. She also gained experience working as a financial controller early in her career, restructuring financial controls and developing improved business processes to provide greater transparency, more accurate reporting and better identification of cost-saving opportunities.
In addition to these roles, Beth spent more than 15 years working with South Carolina’s Department of Health and Environmental Control. She served as a women’s health nurse practitioner, the Operations & Program manager, the Family Planning & Title X director, the Women’s Health Division director, and the Maternal & Child Health Bureau director. Beth supervised and strengthened 16 statewide maternal and child health programs and oversaw a budget of $125 million annually, funding operations and ensuring achievement of goals.
Throughout her career, from working as a registered labor and delivery nurse to her work with the Department of Health, to her nonprofit leadership roles, Beth has prioritized broadening reproductive healthcare for all and improving access to care for those who need it most. She leverages her expertise and understanding of national and state trends to shape solutions and approaches, driving programs, policies and objectives. With Fact Forward, Beth gained extensive lobbying experience at both the state and national level. For the Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, Beth implemented strategies for improving procedures and adolescent healthcare practices, utilizing evidence-based sexual and reproductive health practices and improving clinical standards.
Beth earned her master’s degree in nursing from the University of South Carolina, becoming a women’s health nurse practitioner. She also has a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Virginia.
Outside of her work, Beth makes spending time with her family a priority. They enjoy going to the beach and travelling together.
