Carmen Daniels Jones is an accomplished executive with more than 15 years of experience working in the federal government, the private sector, and the consulting industry, focusing on developing opportunities for overlooked and underestimated groups. Leveraging her marketing and healthcare experience, Carmen leads and facilitates authentic growth initiatives, health equity priorities and strategic stakeholder partnerships. She is a subject matter expert in social impact, community outreach, project management and consumer insight analysis.
Before joining Health Management Associates, Carmen was a consultant with Solutions Marketing Group, where she developed integrated marketing plans for more than 20 years across various sectors. Taking a holistic, strategic approach to project management and program design, Carmen conducted thorough market research, devised inclusive strategies for brand awareness and evaluated financial key performance indicators (KPIs). In addition to creating inclusive marketing plans, Carmen developed content and training curriculum focused on disability etiquette, advocacy, marketing and customer service for companies including AT&T, Nike, Darden Restaurants and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas.
With Solutions Marketing Group and throughout her career, Carmen has demonstrated that disability inclusion and health equity are strategic, competitive advantages. As UnitedHealthcare’s (UHC) health equity and disability inclusion vice president, Carmen led UHC’s Community & State (C&S) health equity transformation initiative, a national initiative designed for implementation in three markets initially with plans to expand to more than 30. She has spearheaded numerous disability-inclusive employment and member growth strategies as well as stakeholder and community engagement initiatives.
Carmen employs both her communications and qualitative research skills to successfully engage stakeholders and build relationships with communities. For UHC, Carmen developed processes for outreach and engagement, working with her team to establish key relationships in 12 markets. She also harnessed qualitative insights from advisory boards to provide measurable success metrics and enhance the member experience. With the USDA, Carmen introduced the Rural Small Business Connections and the Small Business Connections programs, expanding outreach into the small-business communities in eight states. Brokering relationships with local farmer groups, national retailers and local universities, her efforts broke ground for farmers selling to national retailers.
While Carmen excels at driving external change and initiatives, she is also highly skilled at managing internal change. At UHC, Carmen contributed to the organization’s tactical plan, developing trainings and resources for cross-functional teams and facilitators, creating leadership collaboratives, and promoting best practices. With the USDA, she led a cultural transformation initiative, which included creating programming for the department’s senior executives, designing internal communications and managing the intranet site. She is experienced in hiring, mentoring and training teams to positively impact employee engagement and build diverse talent pipelines.
Carmen has a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Hampton University and an executive leadership certificate from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business.
A lifelong learner, Carmen enjoys new experiences while traveling, watching documentaries, practicing photography, and entertaining family and friends.
