Corrie Piontak is a skilled healthcare professional with over 15 years of focused experience in strategic and operational consulting, investment advisory services, and healthcare partnerships. She is an industry expert in applying strategic and innovative solutions to improve care delivery, build capacity, and ensure financial stability for clients. Her areas of expertise include payer-provider partnerships and new company development, managed care, emerging healthcare technology, housing and homelessness, youth welfare, and behavioral health.
Before joining Health Management Associates, Corrie served as an independent healthcare industry advisor. She provided advisory services for private equity firms, advisory firms, and industry leaders on relevant strategic and operations topics, including healthcare market outlooks, industry trends, revenue cycle overviews, healthcare analytics, labor, post-acute services, mergers and acquisitions (M&As), and partnership relationships.
Corrie previously served as a senior vice president of strategy at Kaufman Hall, where she provided strategy consulting for mid-market healthcare systems and payers. She worked with clients to develop integrated strategic and financial plans, and, when appropriate, identify partnerships for strategy execution. For example, she conducted a partnership evaluation for a regional health system merger, focused on offering innovative health services in both the urban and rural South.
Corrie was a director of growth and innovation for Optum’s advisory services, providing consulting services for external health markets and internal UnitedHealth Group clients. She managed complex project accounts across the enterprise and multiple company portfolios, with a targeted focus on relationship management and aligning strategic plans with executable implementation. Corrie provided enterprise-level strategic planning, advised on the development of a consumer-friendly healthcare banking product, and worked to align business-to-business (B2B) client strategies with external market factors. She also identified and developed strategic partnerships focused on disruptors and startups, developing a new product offering to work in digital, consumer engagement, and information technology (IT) healthcare sectors.
As senior strategy advisor in corporate development and enterprise strategy for Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina, she served as lead for the Medicare Advantage federal segment and healthcare products and partnerships focused on value-based care and health prevention and wellness. Corrie outlined and implemented the internal business development and relationship management process and conducted evaluations for partnerships, including a Medicare/Payer “Payvidor” partnership, a national diabetes management product, and a material health digital platform.
Prior to this, Corrie worked as the management consultant team lead within healthcare strategy and innovation with Huron Consulting Group, working within clinical operations, strategy and M&A business advisory practices. She developed methodologies and products for service line optimization, shared service models, market assessments, virtual care, rural healthcare delivery, behavioral health, end of life care, care management, and consumerism. Corrie also developed her skillset through her early-career positions with UNC Health Care as the strategy consultant within the department of enterprise strategic planning and network development, as the patient access manager responsible for six hospitals and outpatient surgery centers, and a project manager for UNC School of Medicine.
Corrie earned her Master of Healthcare Administration in finance and global health as well as her bachelor’s degree in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She serves on the board for Haven House Services, a regional youth homeless shelter and behavioral health service provider, and is an appointed Guardian Ad Litem in Orange County, advocating and working with youth in the foster care system.
She enjoys traveling, swimming, hiking, running, seeing family and friends, and, when not moving, reading.
