Dan Rhodes is a results-driven healthcare operations and compliance executive with over 25 years of successful leadership experience with blue-chip companies. He has worked in multiple settings and has proven expertise in Medi-Cal, Medicaid, Medicare and commercial plans. Dan is a strategic thinker with an analytical approach, working to improve the health status of communities, especially the underserved, and maximize the value of healthcare resources for savings and profitability.
Prior to joining Health Management Associates, Dan was the operations executive and compliance officer for Adventist Health Plan, Inc., where he managed the restricted Knox-Keene (RKK) licensed health plan and led the operations for the Adventist Independent Practice Association (IPA) in Los Angeles county. His responsibilities included overseeing value-based payer contracting, benefits administration, utilization and quality management, cost containment, financial performance, provider contract negotiations, and regulatory compliance. Dan implemented population health reporting tools leading to five consecutive years of profitable performance, delivered top tier quality health outcomes, and produced a multi-million dollar turnaround for the IPA. He established and maintained partnerships with health plans, provider systems, community providers and local resources, and developed new markets and growth opportunities through collaborative negotiations with sponsor plans and provider delivery systems.
Prior to his role as operations executive and compliance officer, Dan was vice president of physician contracting and network development with Adventist Health. In this role, Dan created new infrastructure to support the network’s development and maximize managed care payment agreements with health plan payers. He drove double-digit growth in multiple markets with strategic playbooks across Adventist Health markets and increased top-line revenue for physician services across the organization through consolidated payer contracts. He coordinated contracting strategies with executive hospital leadership across the system and developed contracts for Adventist Health’s the newly established Medical Foundation to align physicians, hospitals and plans.
Dan has diverse and progressive healthcare management experience with both payers and providers, with a demonstrated track record of increasing efficiency and improving quality metrics. He has served as the staff vice president of provider contracting, the staff vice president of compliance and business processes, the director of health care management in California, and the regional vice president of western IPA in California with Wellpoint and Anthem Blue Cross. Dan was also previously the vice president of sales and marketing with Delta Health Systems and the director of contracts and network development with Hills Physicians Medical Group.
Dan earned his Master of International Management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management. He earned his bachelor’s degree in geological sciences from Michigan State University.
In his free time, Dan serves on the board for Tiny Porch Concerts, a nonprofit bringing live music to the Santa Monica Mountains. He is also an avid trail runner, sports fan and Spartan. Go Green!
