Flint Michels understands both the strategic and operational dynamics that can impact the efficiency and effectiveness of care management programs. Working at the intersection of analytics and technology, Flint balances cost savings and quality improvement while coordinating and complying with contractual mandates from employers, states and federal agencies.

With a foundation in health services and administration, Flint has a wealth of expertise in working with commercial and government entities. Flint joined HMA most recently from Wellframe, an organization that implements technology to improve care management and the patient experience. As clinical liaison, Flint oversaw new client engagement and acted as the primary contact for the western United States. He consulted with clients on workflow and operational deployment of the mobile-enabled care management platform.

As vice president of national sales for Imagine Health, Flint enhanced the sales process in the dynamic and rapidly expanding organization. He built strategic relationships directly with prospective clients, as well as channel partners such as consultants. He applied his comprehensive knowledge of the analytic tiering of provider networks to better serve large employers and their commitment to reducing costs while improving quality.

In over ten years with United HealthGroup, primarily with Optum, Flint provided strategic expertise and relational support to healthcare entities across the United States, including payers, providers, ACOs and employers. He facilitated the exploration of outsourced behavioral and physical health networks to optimize services for payers and providers. His principal focus was strategically collaborating with payers, providers and self-insured employers in the application of predictive modeling and gaps in care analytics for both care management and underwriting divisions, as well as provider profiling analytics focused on peer comparisons of efficiency and quality.

Flint previously held roles with William M. Mercer, Inc., where he performed healthcare audits in over seven states as lead clinician in an external quality review organization (EQRO), and BCBS Montana, where he developed their first disease management program. He has direct clinical experience as a registered nurse working for Banner Hospital and the Billings Clinic Hospital.

Flint earned his master’s degrees in business administration and health services administration from Arizona State University. He received his bachelor’s degree in nursing from Carroll College in Helena, Montana.

Flint has family roots in Montana, where he was born and raised on the family cattle ranch outside of Billings. Now living in Arizona, Flint and his family visit Big Sky Country as often as they can.
