A civic-minded attorney focused on ensuring effective delivery of public goods and services, Julie George has put her expertise to work in the healthcare arena.
Since joining HMA, Julie has assisted the Pennsylvania Insurance Department in scripting public consumer educational videos related to informed decisions on buying and using their health insurance, as well as a consumer guide document. Julie supports managed care organizations (MCOs) in an ongoing capacity by keeping them informed on state and local issues impacting Medicaid programs and healthcare.
Julie helps coordinate reviews of managed care organizations’ responses to Requests for Proposals issued by state Medicaid agencies for physical health services and long-term services and supports – contributing legal expertise to enhance proposal reviews. A skilled project manager, Julie performs project tracking and queuing, reporting, and general support including coordinating logistics to federal programs such as the CMS Innovation Accelerator Program. This program focuses on Medicaid innovation efforts aimed at improving service delivery and lowering growth in Medicaid costs.
As a utility and policy legal advocate, Julie secured additional funding for low-income programs focused on social determinants of health, which helped prepare working families for uncertain utility needs. She educated clients and advocates about energy efficiency and energy reduction goal mandates. Outside legal aid, she has helped direct voter outreach and communications for several campaigns for city, state, and judicial offices – with two of those candidates winning election to office.
Julie earned her Juris Doctor from Temple University Beasley School of Law and her bachelor’s degree from Swarthmore College.
