Kathi Schwan is a skilled administration and content manager with more than 20 years of experience in project and personnel management, strategic planning, and financial, grant, and contract management.

Her areas of expertise include content review, policy creation and implementation, liability and risk management, and governance board administration. Before joining HMA, Kathi worked as administrative manager at El Paso County Public Health where she handled day-to-day operations, developed and executed strategic plan requirements, and handled agency liability and risk assessment reviews.

Kathi previously mentored medical students on public health-directed research projects as an assistant clinical professor at Rocky Vista University. She guided students’ research on topics including the criminal justice system, reducing youth incarceration and recidivism, health equity, and homelessness causes and solutions.

Her work and experience also include writing successful grant applications, and managing finances, and state and federal compliance reports. As a member of the HMA Proposal Center, she will manage content to facilitate RFP responses, highlight the strengths of HMA team members, and ensure proposals are responsive and compliant.

She earned a master’s degree in international relations and strategic studies from Boston University and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She also earned a post graduate certification from the United States Department of Agriculture graduate school in executive leadership.

Kathi has lived and worked in Wisconsin and Washington, DC; Aix-en-Provence and Paris, France; Belfast, Northern Ireland; Yaoundé, Cameroon; and Canberra and Melbourne, Australia before returning to Colorado in 2010. She is an avid hiker and portrait painter.
