Melita Ellis King is an internal medicine physician and strategic healthcare executive with over 20 years of experience working in healthcare technology, managed care, value-based care, digital health and healthcare delivery systems. Her technological expertise includes system integration and interoperability, maximizing innovation and efficiency.

Before joining Health Management Associates, Dr. King served as chief medical officer, chief medical information officer and vice president of customer success with Ceras Health, a healthcare technology company. In these roles, she oversaw healthcare programs, patient services, transformational change, process analysis and improvement across diverse healthcare systems. Dr. King managed Ceras Health’s digital application useability and the integration of remote patient monitoring, chronic care management, transitional care management, and behavioral health integration. She utilized data analytics to support and drive best practices and standards of practice.

Dr. King’s strong background in healthcare technology facilitates the integration of data to support patients and multidisciplinary teams in clinical decisions and advancing the standard continuum of care. She has contributed to the integration, interoperability and adoption of electronic medical and health records across multiple organizations. Dr. King established top-performing patient-centered medical operations by building and maintaining alignment between physicians and healthcare systems. She managed strong collaborative customer relationships, including advocating business-to-business software as a service, bridged organizational silos, and aligned both technology and clinical imperatives for customer success and demonstrated results.

Dr King also focuses on process improvement by leveraging her expertise to bring about impactful change. She accomplishes this through standardization and optimization of policy, process, and methodology, establishing a community of practice for go to market strategies. Demonstrating her successful improvements, she managed Cerner’s process and redesign of clinical workflows, strategic alignment and execution of novel approaches, innovations, and integration initiatives in alignment with performance improvement of each of the organizations.  

Dr. King earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the Xavier University School of Medicine. She also has a master’s degree in organizational development from Fielding Graduate University and a bachelor’s degree in biology from Indiana University.
