Stephanie P. Denning, MPA
Stephanie Denning has a unique blend of health care policy, administration, operations, and marketing experience. She has worked for public, non-profit and private health insurers and public health systems. She has expertise in helping navigate and translate the often complex and complicated area between policy and business operations.
Her broad background in health policy, operations and communications gives Stephanie an exceptional ability to help clients with both strategic planning and tactical implementation. She uses data to evaluate core strengths and weaknesses, inform client decision making, and drive desired results.
Prior to joining HMA, Stephanie managed the Medicaid Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+), and Charitable Health Coverage lines of business for Kaiser Permanente Colorado. She supervised business operations including membership, marketing and outreach, and contract administration. She also consulted on care delivery operations and innovations, helping grow the public health insurance program from 5,000 members to more than 20,000 in less than four years. She led efforts to create and expand administrative, operations and reporting infrastructure in Colorado and for Kaiser Permanente nationally. In addition, she developed and launched a regional Charitable Health Coverage program with an individual coverage plan modeled by those that will be available through the new health insurance exchange.
Stephanie has worked in the private sector where she managed state client relationships and served as a liaison between state staff and program operations teams. She has also worked with operations to document policies and procedures, trouble-shoot operational difficulties, resolve client issues, and generate new business.
As director of marketing and public relations for Denver Health, Colorado’s largest public hospital and health system, she managed the onslaught of media attention resulting from the 1999 Columbine High School shootings. For nearly a year, Stephanie provided media relations direction and support for both families, whose children were affected by the tragedy, and the emergency and clinical personnel engaged in rescuing and treating the victims.
Stephanie has a master’s degree in public administration and health policy from the University of Colorado-Denver and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Colorado-Boulder
When Stephanie is not working, she spends her time catching up on being Brad’s wife, Zach’s mom, and Callie’s best friend. She enjoys walking and hiking with all three, reading science fiction novels, and playing Words with Friends.
